Greetings EveryOne!

We had a most wonderful yoga & hiking vacation in the gorgeous (and cool) North Carolina Mountains and we look forward to re-new-ing our yoga practice with you in the new six week session starting today, Monday, August 31st.

Thanks a million to the trusted Kitty Cat Team of Stephanie, Pauline, Eileen and Barry who kept the LCY cats and plants alive so we didn’t have to wonder a bit how they were doing. Thanks also to Barry and all of you who filled the studio at the Yin Yoga Playshops while we were gone.

In addition to our regular schedule this session we have two new classes. There is a Yoga 101, studying and practicing the fundamentals of asana alignment and breath Monday nights at 7:30pm with Nirgunavathi, and Melissa’s Slow & Glow Yoga Class that ends with a sweet meditation at 9:30am on Sunday mornings.

You may register for all […]

By | 2016-12-26T22:16:31+00:00 July 3rd, 2015|Classes|

When you think of Yoga in the Orlando area, you may think of locations like Winter Park, Dr. Phillips or nearer downtown. But yoga Longwood? Those two words don’t necessarily leap to the front of most people’s minds. When looking for a yoga studio, you probably think, “I’m looking for yoga classes near me”.

Lake Center Yoga Longwood is the longest-established yoga studio in the Orlando area. Why do the students here say they have chosen Lake Center as their studio? If you like, you can view what they say on our testimonials page, on Yelp or on our Google + page. Or read the section below.

Mend Your Mind

By | 2015-06-12T14:36:56+00:00 June 12th, 2015|anxiety relief, Classes, Inspirational, lower blood pressure, Meditation, stress|

Why meditate? A better question is, why not meditate? Meditation is good medicine for body, mind and soul. Countless studies have explored its therapeutic benefits and found meditation can lower both stress and your risk of heart disease, as well as treat many anxiety disorders. Meditation can help you temporarily shut the door to your outer life and explore what’s happening within you. (Svadyaya-self observation)

A simple definition of meditation is the practice of focusing your mind and observing yourself in the moment. As you relax inward via guided yogic practices leading to meditation, stress you didn’t realize was there drains away and you come to a place of blissful, restful awareness and expanded Consciousness. Meditation is one of the best things you can do to relax your body, calm your mind, and transform your soul all at the same time!

Stand In Your Abundance

By | 2016-12-26T22:16:32+00:00 April 22nd, 2015|Classes, Inspirational, Yoga Sutras|

Become stable in your Being and merge with the second Yama in Yoga Sutra 2.37, Asteya: Non-Stealing, as you access the abundance of your inner and outer treasures in classes this week at Lake Center Yoga.

The energy meridians in your feet affect your whole body and mind and ultimately spirit. When we are constricted through the feet we constrict on all levels and feel a need to grab and covet what we feel lacking in be it physical, mental or emotional. We’ll use the feet to align and enliven the abundance in our lives that is present in us and all around us.

The feet can be the gateway to alignment of the joints, balanced action in the muscles and ease in the Asanas.  In our practices this week you will mindfully focus on the actions of the feet as well as balancing the weight on the feet as the foundation […]

Immerse Yourself in Satya, Soul Truth To Express Life From

By | 2015-04-17T16:54:06+00:00 April 17th, 2015|Classes, Inspirational, Meditation|

Do you think you are doing Yoga because you do yoga poses?

Do you tell people you do yoga since you attend asana classes?

Well, the Truth (Satya, Truth, our theme for the week) is that you’re NOT doing yoga! Yoga is union of body, mind and spirit, not just about the body. Asanas, or yoga poses are a very small part of Yoga barely mentioned in the Yoga Sutras. Asana, the physical poses are the 3rd of the 8 Limbs of Yoga.

The beauty of LCY is that in our classes, although the focus is asana, we do touch on all the other 7 Limbs. It would be so incomplete not to. So in our classes you do actually go beyond the rampant, physical only asana classes which are actually NOT yoga. Most people can’t focus beyond the physical so you have to be at a more refined awareness to even come […]

Twist It Out!

By | 2015-04-17T16:54:19+00:00 April 16th, 2015|Classes, Inspirational, Yoga Sutras|

Join us this week and delve deeper into twisting asanas by activating the back body in standing poses, standing twists and seated twists.

Twists are postures that generally involve moving the shoulder girdle to face in an opposing direction in relation to the hips. There are different twists that target the upper, middle and lower portions of the torso, all having heir own unique set of health benefits.

This week we’ll access core power in the usually dull and collapsed mid to upper back by moving the back ribs forward and taking the belly and pelvis back as we go deep into twisting asanas.

Benefits: Twists improve digestive function by flooding your digestive organs with fresh oxygen and nutrients via fresh blood flow. This also cleanses the cells of any built up waste and so detox’s stagnated impurities and moves them through the digestive tract due to the compression that comes with twisting. […]
