Get True Yoga at Lake Center Yoga

Join us in one or more of these classes this week at LCY and embody the Essence of Yoga in your life!

The Yoga 101 Class this week focuses on the Inner and Outer Spiral of the legs to protect the low back, the hips and knees. The lower body roots and the spine rises for more efficient performance of the entire nervous system. On a subtle level this creates an open channel for energy to pass through the seven Chakras or energy centers from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Theme: Realize and imbibe what raises your life energy!

The Ongoing Beginner and Ongoing Experienced Yoga Class theme is Yoga Sutra 3.1 Dharana, auspicious focus. In our practice we’ll filter attention for equanimous focus through the entire body. Quality of attention is as important as y quality of movement. We’ll incorporate that into full body awareness […]

Master The Outgoing Senses and The Mind Is Mastered

Patanjali Yoga Sutra 2.55

TATAḤ PARAMᾹ VASYATENDRIYᾹṆᾹṀ

“Pratyahara results in the absolute control of the sense organs. The effect of pratyahara is felt when the senses are mastered, and the mind is ripe and avid for its spiritual quest. When the senses have ceased to run after endless pleasures obtained from the phenomenal world, they can be yoked to serve the soul.” B.K. S. Iyengar

Pratyahara is shifting attention from the outer world to the inside. We try to shift counter productive habits from the outer world, the senses, rather than the inside. Unless it comes from the inside, the change won’t stick. Withdrawing the senses brings us to our peace, our Truth, and from there what isn’t beneficial falls away. There is a dissolving into ecstasy.

Translation:

tatah = then, thereby, thence, from that
parama = highest, supreme, ultimate, perfected
vashyata = mastery, control, being willed
indriyanam = of the mental organs of actions and senses

New Session, New Classes

Greetings EveryOne!

We had a most wonderful yoga & hiking vacation in the gorgeous (and cool) North Carolina Mountains and we look forward to re-new-ing our yoga practice with you in the new six week session starting today, Monday, August 31st.

Thanks a million to the trusted Kitty Cat Team of Stephanie, Pauline, Eileen and Barry who kept the LCY cats and plants alive so we didn’t have to wonder a bit how they were doing. Thanks also to Barry and all of you who filled the studio at the Yin Yoga Playshops while we were gone.

In addition to our regular schedule this session we have two new classes. There is a Yoga 101, studying and practicing the fundamentals of asana alignment and breath Monday nights at 7:30pm with Nirgunavathi, and Melissa’s Slow & Glow Yoga Class that ends with a sweet meditation at 9:30am on Sunday mornings.

You may register for all […]

Stand In Your Abundance

Become stable in your Being and merge with the second Yama in Yoga Sutra 2.37, Asteya: Non-Stealing, as you access the abundance of your inner and outer treasures in classes this week at Lake Center Yoga.

The energy meridians in your feet affect your whole body and mind and ultimately spirit. When we are constricted through the feet we constrict on all levels and feel a need to grab and covet what we feel lacking in be it physical, mental or emotional. We’ll use the feet to align and enliven the abundance in our lives that is present in us and all around us.

The feet can be the gateway to alignment of the joints, balanced action in the muscles and ease in the Asanas.  In our practices this week you will mindfully focus on the actions of the feet as well as balancing the weight on the feet as the foundation […]

Twist It Out!

Join us this week and delve deeper into twisting asanas by activating the back body in standing poses, standing twists and seated twists.

Twists are postures that generally involve moving the shoulder girdle to face in an opposing direction in relation to the hips. There are different twists that target the upper, middle and lower portions of the torso, all having heir own unique set of health benefits.

This week we’ll access core power in the usually dull and collapsed mid to upper back by moving the back ribs forward and taking the belly and pelvis back as we go deep into twisting asanas.

Benefits: Twists improve digestive function by flooding your digestive organs with fresh oxygen and nutrients via fresh blood flow. This also cleanses the cells of any built up waste and so detox’s stagnated impurities and moves them through the digestive tract due to the compression that comes with twisting. […]

New Class With Barry

Spring Break is over and time to return to Yoga School!

Barry has attended classes for over 10 years with us and has trained extensively with John Friend and Sri Ekan in Anusara Yoga Immersions and Teacher Training. Many of you got a good dose of Barry’s teaching skills the past two Saturdays at the Yoga Basics Workshop/ Classes.

This class is perfect for the brand new student so let anyone you know of that has been nervous about starting yoga that this class is Perfect for them. Get Your Ahimsa On

This is Week 6 of our session and the last week before our two week Spring Break so come get your Ahimsa on!

Ahimsa, non-violence, is the first of the five restraints of the Yamas, the 1st Limb of Yoga.

Our practice will focus on Ahimsa in action and includes the application of patience, compassion and love. We’ll invite peace and stillness into our individual actions of body, mind and spirit via Yoga Sutra 2.35 as well as upper body alignment and strength to establish the heart in non-violence.

Yoga Master B.K.S. Iyengar translates this sutra as, “When non-violence in speech, thought and action is established, one’s aggressive nature is relinquished and others abandon hostility in one’s presense.”

Namaste & Have a Peaceful Day~
