The Practice of Cultivating Awareness

When you quiet your mind, you can take your mental “temperature” and steady your energy, regardless of what thoughts arise. When you take an active role in observing your thoughts, rather than a passive one, you’ll notice a difference in the way you react to them and to the world around you. By becoming more aware of your energy, you are better able to stay balanced throughout your day, and less likely to overreact to situations. This is called “cultivating awareness” because it requires practice and attention.

Join us tonight for the practice of cultivating awareness at Friday Night Meditation Class from 7:15pm-8:45pm.

Take The Great Vow (Maha Vrata) To Live The Yamas

In Asana Classes this week we’ll be activating Yoga Sutra 2.31 into our Being along with more core strengthening and Muscular Energy to shine out the 1st Limb of Yoga, the 5 Yamas of non-harming, truthfulness, non-stealing, conscious control and right use of our vital force and non-attachment in Balancing Poses.

B.K.S. Iyengar translates this sutra as: “The five components of Yama are called ‘mighty universal vows’, as they are not confined to class, place, time or concept of duty. They should be followed unconditionally by students of yoga in particular. They form the framework of rules on which society is based. This universal approach should also be applied to all the other component states of yoga without distinction of time, place or circumstances to lay down the precepts of a universal culture. They represent the ideal, responsible way for everyone to live.”

Meditation Master Sri Mooji says that without meditation, without […]

Get Calm Mastery at Friday Night Meditation Class 7:15-8:45pm

“Letting go can be as scary as dropping backward over a cliff with your eyes closed, but once you’re able to let go, you float in the arms of the interconnected universal fabric.”
Meditation Teacher Jack Kornfield

Many approaches to meditation might be obvious but unless you hear them spoken while deep in a receptive state they can be hard to bring into life. Come and enter that receptive state in meditation class!  As you follow your breath with the calm detachment of listening to a breeze through the trees you stop struggling with what you cannot change and ‘float in the arms of the interconnected universal fabric.’

Sri Ekan will guide you to this place of stillness and impermanence, calm mastery and deep understanding through the more subtle of the 8 Limbs of Yoga. In Asana Classes at LCY we incorporate all 8 Limbs but the focus is more on the first […]

Prana and Apana Vayu

This week learn to balance the two subtle breaths called Prana Vayu and Apana Vayu along with Yoga Sutra 2.12 and Asana classes emphasizing intelligent, aligned and integrated movement.

One of the main objectives of Hatha Yoga is that of stimulating the Vayus in a harmonious manner.  The human being is a transformer of energy, or prana. An uninterupted flux of particles, molecules and atoms traverses our bodies, not just as solid or liquid form but also as gas, and subtle energies. Air that brings us oxygen is also charged with water vapors and subtle smells, such as the smells of nature. These play an important role in preserving health as shown by aromatherapy. Life means changes and transformations. The more active our changes and interactions with the environment are, the more we are alive, in the most dynamic sense of the word. Our body is a whirlpool of energy in […]

Have Restful Awareness While Being Active

Join us this week in asana classes at LCY to establish a pattern of moving while having restful awareness via Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 2.11 and a vinyasa yoga sequence with intelligent alignment.  In this practice you will retrain your nervous system to go from just having awareness, which isn’t always restful, into restful awareness in action! In your practice you can instill this state to extend into your life and constantly be in the unclutched mode while walking, talking, sitting, working, cooking- doing everything in unclutched restful awareness!

Meditation Master Roy Davis translates this sutra as, “Troublesome influences are effortlessly resisted and their forces weakened and dissolved by super conscious influences that prevail when, and after, meditative states of samadhi are experienced. Gradual or sudden immergence of our innate knowledge of what is true replaces erroneous ideas and illusions.”

Yoga Master B.K.S. Iyengar says of Yoga Sutra 2.11, “Here Patanjali offers meditation […]

Burn All That You Are Not

“Meditation is fire – It burns your thoughts, your desires, your memories; it burns the past and the future. It burns your mind and the ego. It takes away all that you think that you are. It is a death and a rebirth, a crucifixion and a resurrection. You are born anew. You lose your old identity totally, and you attain to a new vision of life.” ~Osho

Burn all that you are not, move from the the temporary to the eternal, the impure to the pure, the limited self to the True Self at Friday Night 7:15pm Meditation Class at LCY!

Expand Your Love With Meditation

Join us at Friday Night 7:15pm Meditation Class and expand your LOVE capacity!

Meditation Mystic Osho says,  “Love has no basis unless it is grounded and centered in meditation. Any problem of love can be solved only when the problem of meditation has been solved, not before it, because it is really two non-meditative persons who are creating the problem. Two persons who are in confusion, who don’t know who they are will naturally multiply each other’s confusion, they magnify it. Unless meditation is achieved, love remains a misery.

When you are in love, don’t forget meditation… Love is only going to show you who you are, where you are. And it is good that love makes you alert…Now is the time to meditate. If love and meditation go together, you will have both wings, you will have a balance. Love and meditate, meditate and love, and slowly, slowly you will see […]

Listen With The Whole Body Instrument

Listen With the Whole Body Instrument and Yoga Sutra 2.4

This weeks practice will be a slow meditative flow that will attune your body/mind instrument to listen in order to follow the inner promptings and to recognize those magical moments of synchronicity beyond the Kleshas (obstacles, afflictions) and will include breathing practices to balance the nervous system and end with a meditation.

This practice will be supported by Yoga Sutra 2.4 which teaches us to recognize the layers of intensity of the Kleshas in order to reduce, weaken and inactivate them permanently.

Yoga Sutra 2.4 says, “Inability to accurately perceive what is True is the primary cause of afflictions which may be dormant, weak, controlled, or very influential. Subliminal conditions that prevent spiritual growth result from flawed perception and incomplete understanding.

Those afflictions which are dormant may be activated and cause problems in the future or may be eradicated when understanding is improved. Those […]
